50th Anniversary Celebration
In March 1973, forty-six of the sixty members of The Rotary
Club of Marion, IL poised on the steps of the First United Methodist Church
in Marion for their 50th Anniversary photo. Members identified are: Charles
Ingram, Jr., Clay Hunter, Orland Stanley, Dutch Doelitzsch, Rev. Everett
Lynch, Wayne Tate, Laurence Bouas, Duane Mayberry, Harry Rodd, Harold Chase,
James R. Wilson, L. C. Cavaness, Dee Rodd, Dr. Joe McAlpin, Raymond Allen,
Bill Armstrong, Cliff Storme, Richard Darby, R. E. Bolby, Oscar Schafle,
Milt Witt, Wilson "Catfish" Giles, Jesse Hill, Floyd Walker, Lawrence Wolwend,
and Loren Carter. |
Rotary
of Marion, Illinois was chartered on April 7, 1923. The club was sponsored
by the Rotary Club of Harrisburg and originally met at the First Baptist
Church of Marion. The club moved the meeting location several years later
because the First Baptist Church complained about the Rotary Club members
smoking.
