First United Methodist Church, by starting and stopping meetings on time and by an espirt-de- corps of the total membership built up over many years. Addendance is not forced now, but it is considered the proper and right thing to do and is a part of the obligations of being a good member of the Marion Rotary Club. Past President Bill Giles and Ira Nelson were so anxious to maintain their 100 per cent record on different occasions, that when they were patients at the Marion Memorial Hospital they were brought to the meeting in an amulance on a stretcher by James Wilson, who operated the ambulance service in Marion at those times. The longest period of consecutive 100 per cent attendance was for 21 months from December 1940 until August 1942. Rotary meetings may be "made-up" by attending a Rotary meeting in another community 2-weeks preceeding or after the "missed" home-club meeting. Harold Chase is our oldest 100% attendance member. |
