Rotary Youth
Awards Program
Super RYLA
RYLA was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1971, and is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service. RYLA programs often lead to the formation or strengthening of Rotaract and Interact clubs.
We are making some exciting changes to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) this year! RYLA is an intensive leadership training program for students aged 14 - 18. Talented young people attend the 3-day camp, organized by District 6510 Rotarians. Sponsoring Rotary clubs often pay for the participants expenses.
Some of the changes to RYLA are designed to increase participation and to make the entire weekend fun, interactive, and engaging for today's youth.
First, we have merged Basic RYLA and Advanced RYLA into one SUPER RYLA! We will be taking the best exercises and events from Basic and Advanced RYLA, and adding some new surprises that will update the curriculum and enhance the entire RYLA experience.
Second, we have changed the time of year that RYLA is held from winter to summer. This year RYLA will be held August 1 - 3, 2008. In the past, many students were unable to attend because of school and sports conflicts. This will allow more students the opportunity to attend RYLA.
Third, we have changed the location of RYLA. The camp will be held at Lake Williamson in Carlinville, Illinois. This camp is awesome with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, beach area, waterslides, gymnasiums, climbing wall, video arcade, miniature golf, etc., etc. We plan to take advantage of the indoor and outdoor activities available during the weekend. In addition, the sleeping facilities and cafeteria are outstanding.
Finally, the tuition for Basic RYLA was $125 - $150 and Advance RYLA was $125 - $150. A total cost of $250 - $300. Tuition for SUPER RYLA will be $250.00 per student. We will be accepting 75 students to SUPER RYLA. Please remember this SUPER RYLA will fill up fast, so have students apply early.
To promote this event, we will have fliers, applications, and medical forms you can place in schools and with Interact Clubs, available at the District Conference. Youth Coordinators and Presidents, please stop by the RYLA table to pick up your marketing packet at District Conference.
